Managing Buffers

Configure buffers with grouping, batching, delivery and retry settings.

Creating a buffer

  1. Click Buffers in the sidebar
  2. Click New Buffer
  3. Fill in the sections below and save

The buffer list shows each buffer's Ingest URL (https://webbu.dev/api/v1/ingest/{projectId}/{bufferId}) with a copy button. Creating and editing buffers requires the member role or higher.

Basic Information

  • Buffer Name and Project
  • Enabled: disabled buffers reject ingest with 400 Buffer is disabled

Group Key Configuration

  • Extraction Mode: JSONPath (from payload) or Header (from request headers)
  • JSONPath: dot-notation path such as $.conversationId or $.data.id
  • Fallback Header: header used when the path is missing (or always, in header mode)

See Group Keys.

Source Verification

Optionally reject incoming requests that don't carry a valid HMAC-SHA256 signature. See Security for the expected format.

Batch Configuration

FieldDefaultForm limits
Max Items501 to 10,000
Max Bytes262,144 (256 KB)1 KB to 10 MB
Idle Timeout (ms)5,000100 ms to 5 min
Max Wait From First (ms)15,000100 ms to 10 min

See Flush Conditions.

Overflow Configuration

Max Group Items (default 2,000) and Max Group Bytes (default 5 MB) per segment. See Segments & Overflow.

Delivery Configuration

  • Delivery URL and HTTP Method (POST or PUT)
  • Timeout: fixed at 10 seconds
  • Idempotency Header (default x-idempotency-key)
  • Custom Headers: added to every delivery, e.g. an Authorization header for your endpoint
  • Enable Request Signing (HMAC-SHA256): signs each delivery; see Security

Throughput Configuration

Max attempts (1 to 5, default 3) and the retry backoff. See Delivery & Retries.

The DLQ auto-pause threshold (default 3) is also configured here; see Auto-pause.

Editing a buffer

Open the buffer, change the settings and save. Changes apply to the next ingest and flush. Changing the group key only affects new webhooks; items already buffered stay in their groups.

Cloning and testing

  • Clone creates a copy of the buffer (named "… (Copy)") in the same project, with a new buffer ID and ingest URL
  • Test sends a sample payload straight to the delivery URL, using your headers and signing settings, and shows the response. It doesn't go through buffering or use credits

Disabling a buffer

Turn off Enabled to stop a buffer. While it is disabled:

  • Ingest requests get 400 Buffer is disabled
  • Buffered items are kept but not delivered

Webbu also disables a buffer automatically after too many consecutive DLQ entries (auto-pause). Re-enabling resets that counter.

Deleting a buffer

Deleting removes the buffer's configuration. Items still buffered are not delivered, and its ingest URL starts returning 404 Buffer not found. Deleting cannot be undone.
